French drain is a drainage system which is installed to keep your basement dry. The French drain installation is usually done by people who wish to protect the design of their waterproof basement. You can install your own French drain if you have sufficient amount of time. The first step in installing a French drain is to find the path in your basement. You need to check for water stagnation in your basement before allocating a path for you French drain.
You need to excavate a trench after finding the path in the basement. This is considered as one of the toughest part while constructing a French drain. The trench should be minimum nine inches deep and you need to fill them with pipe and gravel. After this method you have to cover the pipe with gravels and then you need to lay a sod to hide it out of sight.
